About the Role:

Build and ship Shopify storefronts that real brands sell through every day. You will develop themes, custom sections, app integrations and checkout customizations for D2C and retail clients, using AI tools to move faster than a traditional agency developer.

This is a hands-on IC role in our Customer Interactions practice. You will work closely with a senior developer and an Outcome Manager, and you will often be the dedicated developer on a client's Shopify account.

Storefront Development (60%)

• Build and customize Shopify themes using Liquid, Online Store 2.0 sections, blocks and metafields
• Turn Figma designs into fast, responsive, accessible storefronts
• Set up and configure stores end to end: products, collections, navigation, markets, payments and shipping
• Integrate and configure Shopify apps, and build lightweight custom functionality where an app is overkill
• Implement checkout and post-purchase customizations with Checkout Extensibility and Shopify Functions
• Optimize Core Web Vitals, page speed and conversion on high-traffic pages

Store Maintenance & Support (20%)

• Act as the dedicated developer on client Shopify accounts: handle change requests, bug fixes and campaign launches
• Prepare stores for SALE events and high-traffic drops, and jump in fast if something breaks in production
• Migrate stores from WooCommerce, Magento or other platforms to Shopify with clean data and redirects
• Keep themes and apps updated and clean up app bloat that slows stores down

AI-Native Development (15%)

• Use AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) for 50%+ of your development work
• Build AI-powered storefront features such as smart search, recommendations and conversational shopping assistants
• Use AI to speed up QA, documentation and repetitive store setup tasks
• Contribute to our commerce accelerators (cartx, shopx) under senior guidance

Documentation & Collaboration (5%)

• Document every store you touch: theme structure, customizations, app stack and known issues
• Work with Outcome Managers, designers and senior developers in short, outcome-focused sprints
• Share what you learn with the commerce team

Technical Foundation

• 1-2 years of hands-on Shopify development, with at least 2 live stores you can show us
• Solid Liquid templating and Online Store 2.0 (sections, blocks, metafields, metaobjects)
• Strong HTML, CSS and JavaScript, including responsive and mobile-first layouts
• Comfortable with Shopify CLI, theme development workflows and Git
• Working knowledge of the Shopify Admin and Storefront APIs (REST or GraphQL)
• Understands the Shopify admin: products, variants, collections, markets, discounts and checkout settings

Problem-Solving

• Can debug theme, app and checkout issues on a live store without breaking anything else
• Cares about page speed, accessibility and conversion, not just how it looks
• Ownership mentality: you see problems through to resolution

AI-Native Mindset (Non-Negotiable)

• Already using AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) in your daily work
• Can explain how AI speeds up your theme development and debugging
• Excited about AI's role in commerce, not threatened by it

• Clear written English for client updates, documentation and pull requests
• Asks questions early instead of guessing on client requirements
